To e-read or not to e-read...that is the question?

Chris and I are debating whether we should get one of these as a joint Christmas present for ourselves. The idea of having one thousand books on a small portable device rather than filling up bookshelves in our home is appealing.

Not sure whether it would completely replace reading real books with covers and paper pages, though. And I would like to buy one that lets me borrow ebooks from libraries. So far the Sony Touch e-reader is looking like the one we might choose. Kindles seem to be a bit too Amazon embedded for my liking.
